Commemoration of April 27 – National Day of Missing Persons

On April 28, to mark the National Day of Missing Persons in Kosovo, a commemorative meeting was held with the participation of the families of missing persons from Kosovo and Serbia, representatives of institutions, civil society, international partners, and the media.

This gathering served as a moment of reflection, remembrance, and renewed commitment to uncover the fate of the missing. April 27 is not just a date on the calendar, but a permanent call for truth and justice.

During the event, special respect was paid to Baca Bajram Çerkinaj – one of the most distinguished figures in the efforts to uncover the fate of the missing. With unwavering determination and dedication, he remained a voice of truth until his last breath, living his life with the pain and hope of thousands of families. Even today, around 1,600 persons are still missing, and Baca Bajram’s legacy obligates us to continue seeking the truth without rest.

Several important demands and recommendations were highlighted during the meeting:

-The issue of blood sample collection

-The need for strong political will and institutional cooperation

-Depoliticization of the process

-Inclusion of families in the Brussels dialogue

-Memorialization with language that builds the future

-Identification cards for families

-Focus on psycho-social healing

-The issue of pensions
