“I want to go the woods and shout “Reshaaat”!”
Fatime Qerkini, Mitrovica
Reshat, the youngest son of the Qerkini family from Mitrovica, when the Serbian government terrors in 1998 in the Drenica area intensified, became involved in the defense of the country and often started to miss home, sometimes returning briefly and mostly in the late hours of night enough to get new clothes. Reshat’s activities and locations remain a mystery to his mother, Fatime, who recalls her son’s determination to respond to absences from home: “Wherever everybody else is, I will be there too. Wherever others die, I will die too. I will not stay while youth is being killed. ”
