We held an information session in Fushë Kosovë/Kosovo Polje with families of missing persons and institutions focused on the theme of transitional justice and dedicated to Human Rights Day with UNMIK support.
Under this year’s theme “Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now”, we recall -in addition to the families’ right to know, that the United Nation’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) foresees the right to information, which we supported by making the process transparent and allowing institutions to inform families of significant updates to the Transitional Justice Strategy and the revised Law on Missing Persons; the rights to access to justice and legal remedy through which attendees discussed practical steps to secure their entitlements and file complaints; and the right to freedom of expression. Which we facilitated by creating a safe space for families of missing persons to inform institutions of their experiences and concerns.
This event stands as a reminder that true human rights advocacy involves addressing the past and ensuring that one is left behind in the pursuit of equality and dignity.
This activity was supported by the project “Promoting a Human Rights-Based Approach to Transitional Justice”.
